Front Engine Dragster N/FD NOSTALGIA or “FED”

Top Fuel and Junior Fuel Dragsters as long as the engine is in front of the driver

This class is aimed to replicate the slingshot dragsters that raced up to and including 1971

(eg SB/BB Ford/Hemi/Chev combinations)

General Car rules apply

Unlimited : Weight, 1x slot car motor.

Cars race heads up without restrictions on motor, weight etc

Prohibited: Wheelie bar/wheels or any item on the vehicle which would restrict the bottom of the front wheels

moving through to 8” off the track in a wheel stand.

Cars must be direct drive (eg. No clutch or slipper type drive systems)

Racing surface must be wiped fully clean before practice

Drivers have a maximum of two practice runs in each lane and must run in both lanes

Track closed between practice and qualifying, qualifying order to be drawn at random

Second qualifying run to start with list of drivers stepped half way through field to even out the track conditions

Note (1) Photographic proof may be required to allow cars to race where dimensions,

specifications or period parts may be disputable

Note (1) applies to ALL below

Body :

Front Engine Dragster style (Fuel Coupes and Comp Roadsters are not eligible to race as a FED)

Cars must have 1/24th or 1/25th scale driver inside a roll cage

Cars must have representation of a full scale motor complete with injection/supercharger, belts and pulleys,

heads, rocker covers, headers, scoops etc, motor must be in normal position

Cars must have a parachute

Front wing if any must resemble one that was used during that period on a FED

Any fuel tank displayed must be of appropriate scale

Chassis:

Chassis must be of in-line configuration.

Driving motor must move with chassis/body (eg may not stay level with the track in the event of a wheelstand)

Drop arm permitted to keep guide in slot in event of wheel stand

Maximum wheelbase of 240mm

Guide must be commercially manufactured and the blade is to be no longer than 26mm

Front Wheels :

Minimum overall diameter of 22mm and must replicate motorcycle style wheel

May be plastic model tires, foam or o-rings

Rear Wheels :

Minimum overall diameter of 29mm O/D and .400 wide

Rear rims to resemble what was used up to and including 1971

Tires must be foam/sponge slot car type material, black in colour

Wheels to represent those run during the period, suitable choice for wheels - Halibrands/American Racing,

period correct style

Chassis

Any In-Line chassis

Ball bearings are permitted in chassis (axle and w/w’s only)

Motor

Must use Pro-Slot .550 Big Block Group 20 Drag Motor #PS-101

May replace motor brushes and springs with any “slot car motor” brushes and springs

"Shunts" not permitted

May align brush hoods

Armature may be com-trued

May re-space armature

Must use oil-lite type bushes

May solder can bush in place

May tighten bushes

No other modifications permitted

Wheels

Minimum diameter for front rim is 15mm

Rear wheels must be Pro-Track 1 5/16 x 3/32 x .700 # PTC-N240 (plain) or PTC-N246 (drilled)

Rear wheels may be trued - minimum diameter for rear tires = 28mm

Outer sidewall of tire may be trimmed to outside edge of rim

Profile of curved edge must fit within template profile

Body

Kit set or resin bodies only (vacuum formed bodies not permitted)

Body to cover the chassis and guide when viewed from above except for w/w bars

Cars used must represent US designed and manufactured cars produced before 1980

Cars must resemble full size cars that would be able to be street driven with lights etc…

Hood may be modified to allow fitting of intake system (supercharger, turbo inlets, scoop etc)

Rear wheel arch may be lengthened but must remain stock appearance

No minimum weight

Index is .800, Pro tree to be used

Cars to be raced after Club Champs KT races each month, track conditions to suit these cars

During Practise, Qualifying and Racing only “correct” class cars permitted on the track

Qualifying order to be drawn randomly. Qualifying order to be used for “seeding” on elimination ladder

Maximum of 4 runs for practice prior to qualifying (2 runs per lane)

No “goo” is to be applied to tires prior to each run

Chassis

Kentucky Trash in-line chassis only to be used and built as intended

Motor

Must use any D motor can (case)

Must use any D can single ceramic magnets

Must use any D can end-bell and brush hoods

Must use any 16D or S16D armature

Must use oil-lite type bushes

No modifications to can and or end-bell other than holes for screws to hold end bell to can

May replace brushes and springs with any “slot car motor” brushes and springs

May re-balance and com-true of armature

May align brush hoods

May re-space armature

May solder can bush in place

May tighten bushes

Magnet shimming allowed

"Shunts" not permitted

Wheels

Wheelie wheels must rotate

Minimum diameter for front and rear rims = 15mm

Minimum diameter for rear tires = 25mm

Wheels must resemble full size wheels

In the case of wheels that are smaller than listed above when scaled to 1/24th proof of size may be required

for that car to pass “tech”

Body

1/24th or 1/25th Kit set or resin bodies only (vacuum formed bodies not permitted)

If an "open top" body is used then complete interior detail must be fitted

Body to be complete and cover the chassis and guide when viewed from above except for w/w bars

Pro Stock N P/S                  

The term “Kit set or resin bodies to resemble the style of ” Pro/Stock Cars that raced between 1970 and 1980 inclusive, is to allow cars to be raced that resemble the style of cars that raced in American Pro/Stock class

This way cars can be built that look the part but not have to be a replica

Drivers have a maximum of two practice runs in each lane and must run in both lanes

Track is to be closed between practice and qualifying, qualifying order to be drawn at random

Second qualifying run to start with list of drivers stepped half way through field to even out the track conditions

Nostalgia PS cars to run to fixed index of .990 with a .400 Full Tree

Some Super Stock cars also ran in the early days of NHRA Pro Stock and therefore are eligible to run as a

N P/S car as NHRA had a 2 year rule which allows 1968 and 1969 Cars to be run eg: ’68 - ’69 Camaro, Cuda, Dart etc

Ball bearings are permitted in chassis and or motoruide, front and rear wheels are to be covered by the bonly wheelie bar wheels, mounting pins and optional parachuare permitted outside of body when viewed from above

Body :

Kit set or resin bodies used are to resemble the style of cars that raced in American Pro Stock races between 1970 and 1980 inclusive (vac formed bodies are not permitted)

The body is to be complete ie; removing or trimming bumpers and or lower body panels is prohibited

Body height (front and rear) must resemble the style of cars as raced in American Pro Stock races between 1970 and 1980 inclusive

Hood scoops must resemble the style used on American Pro Stock cars between 1970 and 1980 inclusive

Rear wings or deflectors (if used) must resemble the style used on American Pro Stock cars between 1970 and 1980 inclusive

Parachute (if fitted) must be in the appropriate position

Cars must display appropriate period sponsor type decals (ie a street car with scoop is not eligible)

Cars must display a painted full interior with a 1/24th or 1/25th scale driver consisting of helmet, upper body, arms, hands and a steering wheel. The driver must be in the correct driving position

N P/S Cars are to resemble Pro Stock cars as they raced between 1970 and 1980 inclusive using period correct items, this covers body mods that were done, style of wheels and hood scoops that were used, type of helmets etc that are eligible to be used

Wheels :

Front and Rear wheels must resemble the style of wheels used on American Pro Stock cars between 1970 and 1980 inclusive

Minimum diameter of front and rear rims is 15mm

Minimum overall diameter of front wheels is 24mm, may be model tires, foam or o-rings

Minimum overall diameter of rear wheels is 29mm with a contact patch width of 10mm per tyre

Suitable ‘off the shelf’ wheels are => Pro-Track style B,G,H, JDS 7011, 7016 and WRP Centerline, Star and ‘Halibrand’ Style wheels

NB: bead lock rings and 3 piece style wheels were not used in Pro Stock racing prior to 1980
